Winter skin

I know I have written an article before about skin care, but as the weather is changing I thought it would be a good time for a quick skin care reminder. If your skin is anything like mine it becomes horribly dry in these cold months, mine is especially dry on my forehead and either side of my nose. Nobody likes a flakey face, I am always reminded of that scene from Harry Potter where Lord Voldermorts face crumbles – YUK!

So my quick tips to save you from the flakey face this winter are:

1) Use a good moisturiser, you want one with zinc oxide and/or SPF30 protection to form a barrier against the elements. If you have naturally oily skin then you can select a moisturiser that isn’t oily so that you don’t go from flakey to oily in one evening.

2) Make sure you exfoliate at least once a day because it removes the dry dead skin cells and allows your skin to absorb more moisture.

3) As I’ve said before SLEEP is essential!

4) Now this might sound silly but trust me (Im not an expert but I do get flaky winter skin). Wash your face with warm water then cold water then warm water etc. repeatedly. This may sound stupid but it is a great way to revitalise your skin because it gets the blood flowing in your face and that helps your blood clean out any toxins that are bad for your skin.

Orange

A few years ago nobody would be seen wearing orange but orange is cropping up all over the place now whether it be just in the subtlety of a nail varnish or lipstick or something as bold and striking as a dress. If you are like me and have only just mastered how to wear last seasons colours then this introduction of a new colour can seem very daunting, especially when you know in a few months or so nobody will be wearing orange anymore. You might be wondering wearily if there is any point in mastering how to wear orange when fashion is so transient but if you would like to attempt such a bold colour then here are my top tips:

1) If you are completely overwhelmed at the thought of wearing orange then don’t panic, just stick to wearing it on your nails. Orange nails look great against dark outfits and can really add a colourfull element to your look but orange nails also pop against white and some shades of pink so just give it a go, and if you don’t like it you can always remove it.

2) Another way to wear orange in a subtle (or as subtle as orange can be) way is to wear it on your lips. This might seem a little terrifying but when worn correctly orange lips can be a very bold fashion statement, just make sure you don’t over do it, keep the rest of your makeup toned down and don’t wear other bright colours close to your face. It would look amazing with orange trousers!

3) Layer! Layering is fashionable at the moment as it is, but an excellent way to incorporate orange into your wardrobe is to wear a simple orange tshirt layered with a plain coloured cardigan or jacket.

4) Shoes, be they pumps, heals or trainers are an effective way of making a statement without screaming for attention. There isn’t much that can go wrong as part of the charm of orange is that is can be worn with almost anything even a bright pink – so give it a go!

5) What about a bag, sometimes I am sucked into the idea that it is expensive and indulgent to buy lots of bags for different outfits but often changing the colour of the bag you carry can be an inexpensive way of incorporating the latest trend to your wardrobe.

6) The trick to wearing large amounts of orange such as dresses, trousers and jackets is to be careful when you accessorise keep it neutral browns, whites black etc.. maybe even a little gold if you are feeling brave enough.
